HADAKA holds no space for shame.
HADAKA meaning - “naked” in Japanese - is a brand rooted in honesty, vulnerability, and the quiet power of simply being seen.
HADAKA was founded by London born and raised jeweller Maya Mayall. They started their journey into jewellery design and manufacturing at the British Academy of Jewellery in 2021.
Maya began creating their jewellery as a way to reclaim the body from shame and stigma. Alongside inspiration drawn from their Japanese roots, HADAKA was created with a focus on the nude form - not as an object, but as a symbol of autonomy, strength, and empowerment. HADAKA represents the rejection of traditional, often oppressive narratives that have long shaped how bodies, particularly queer bodies, are viewed, judged, and controlled. HADAKA was born from navigating the tension between queerness, freedom of expression and traditional cultural expectations.
The nude form is central to the brand because it is honest. The curves, lines, and silhouettes of each piece are reflections of real bodies - diverse, perfectly imperfect, and powerful in their authenticity. HADAKA pieces are bold forms - exaggerated, chunky, sensual, and protective all at once. The body is not treated as something to conceal or consume, but as something powerful to protect.
